Planting Cacti

IMG_6588My neighbors set out these spiked plants late last year for the weekly dump pick-up. I liked the planters they were in and I felt sorry for the cacti so I hauled them to our back yard and there they sat, next to the hose and in the shade no less, until today.

We have this fire pit that I turned into a planter in our front yard. Unfortunately, or fortunately for the cacti, the plants we planted in it last year didn’t make it.

When the former fire pit dwellers met their end, I decided to relocate the prickly greenery to the fire pit planter.

It was an ouchy business planting these guys! I finally had to abandon my gloves as they kept harboring thorns and resort to planting the cacti with my trowel.

Once I had them potted though I realized that they were going to need a sunnier place than near the front door. So, I moved the whole thing to a brighter location under the Maple tree in the front yard.

That was my Wednesday afternoon activity. What did you do this afternoon?
