Bunnies and Bluegrass

Standard

I love it when things have catchy titles like Bunnies and Bluegrass. It sparks your interest right away doesn’t it? Well, this event is sure to have more than just a catchy title. On Saturday, April 28th Irvin House Vineyards will be hosting this “B” themed event.

Known for its muscadine wines and maybe more recently and popularly known as the home of Firefly Distillery, this place puts on a good party. The Southern Gent and I went a couple years ago to their open house for the vodka distillery.

We had recently been introduced to their Sweet Tea Vodka and wanted to see the place responsible for it. We had such a good time that our signature drink at our wedding included some Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka.

As we had had so much fun at Irvin House Vineyards the first time, we decided to take the Southern Gent’s parents there when they visited us last month for St. Patrick’s Day weekend. If you note a lot of green in the photos, that is why.

We tried the wines first and then went across the way to the Firefly tasting area. We had a great bartender. That’s him there in the green shirt, no hat and sunglasses around his neck. If you see him, tell him I sent you.

They have some great decorating in this tasting room! You know I love the Western stuff. Any place that puts out a saddle is a place I am gonna like. I have a saddle out in my house too. Although, I don’t have the old wood stove to put it on – something to work towards!

Anyway, back to the bartender. He inspired us to make some purchases. Actually, those aren’t ours but, as you can see, we weren’t the only ones buying. Their products are popular. They now have rum and more recently some great liqueurs. They were released in the Charleston area in the past month and they should be making their way to you soon.

We listened to some music – and there will be some on the 28th too! The Hungry Monks will be playing then.

Then we relaxed,

took in the sights and had some great food from Farm on Fire. Apart from the tasty meal, they make this Guiness Brownie that is to die for! They will be there on the April 28th btw. Make sure you try the brownie!

After that, we decided to check out the rest of the place.

We  saw a miniature cow named . . .

Yep, that’s her name.

We saw some pigs. They were friendly. That one there got up close and personal with the Southern Gent’s mom at one point as she stood at the railing. The pig put its front legs on the railing to elevate itself and get a better sniff of her hand.

We even saw vines! Imagine that. It is a vineyard after all.

Finally, and sometimes the most important thing at certain points in a day – they have an outhouse!

Hopefully I have inspired you to add this event to your calendar. We will be there. If you see me, say hello!

And on a final note, if you are looking for something to do this weekend: Dirt Roadtrip Farm Tour 2012. I just heard about this this morning on the radio. What a cool ideal! We are going to try to fit this in with the Pet Fest that is also going on this weekend.
