The Beach

Two weeks ago today the girls and I woke to a day unlike the prior four days – it looked like it might actually rain! This was it though, our last day together before David’s parents and his older brother and his family came for the weekend and David’s birthday. So, we packed up our towels and sunblock and went to Folly Beach.

Having not left childhood completely behind, the girls ran to the water immediately and soon enticed me to come out and join them. I found it hard to leave my chair at first. I was having such a good time watching them play in the water, write their names in the sand and poke at things they found washing up in the waves.

I remembered doing the same thing when I was a young child then later in my teenage years one summer when I baby-sat a couple of girls a little younger than our nieces. And there I was a couple Fridays ago, splashing in the surf, jumping up as a wave came towards me and sometimes diving in beneath the wave as it began to crest to avoid being pummeled by it.

Summer at the beach. It is a great time of year and a great place to be.
